Laura MacFarlane

Laura MacFarlane is a singer songwriter and solo performer based in Melbourne Australia. Her live performances draw on a vast catalogue of tunes from previous associated acts such as Ninetynine as well as her unique solo work. Laura has supported many touring acts ranging from Low Barlow to Underground Lovers as well as playing with many other Melbourne based local bands such as DEAD, Kim Salmon, Misanthropes and S:Bahn.

In addition to her work with Ninetynine and other bands Laura recently released a series of solo recordings as Laura MacFarlane.

‘ViViD by Laura MacFarlane (2021 Patsy Records)

The album release of the Vivid recording project. Vivid is series of recordings originally released during the Melbourne COVID lockdown in 2020 in conjunction with Bandcamp Friday’s. The project consisted of three EP’s each showcasing a particular instrument: ‘Into the Metalude’ (vibraphone), ‘The Narrows’ (guitar) & ‘Future Obscura’ (keyboard). All recorded in a stripped back ambient solo performance accompanied by Laura’s distinctive and emotive vocals. The three recordings were then subsequently released together as the album Vivid.

The first instalment of the Vivid recording series. It is an EP of solo vibraphone tracks with accompanying lyrical vocals in an ambient and ethereal sounding production.

Is the second instalment of the Vivid record series. Is an EP of guitar and vocal tracks, ranging from minimalist solo guitar and vocal performance in ‘Tricky’ to multilayered production of ‘Coded’ which was featured in PBS top 10.

The third and final instalment of the Vivid recording series. Future Obscura is an EP of Casio keyboard and vocal performances utilising Casio drums beats and layered sounds that can best be described as ‘bedroom electronica.’
